I'm interested in the interconnections between genealogy, visual & material culture and social history, seen through a larger framework of colonial relationships.
My genealogical work is grounded in extensive archival research and oral histories. I earned my doctorate in Art History (UCLA 1998) and have articles on the history & development of American museums, art practice, race, and the history of Mundillo, traditional Puerto Rican lace making, and genealogy. I'm working on several projects, including the work of French artist Andre Girard, a collaboration with John Kysela.
My art practice has focused mostly on collage, painting and photography. In 2011 my work was in an iPhone Photo show at Light Room Gallery in Berkeley. My photographic images explore texture and memory through extreme close ups. Two works will be included in the First Juried Exhibition for Artists with M.E. this year.
